I remember staring at the ceiling and making a plea to the Universe to send someone to help guide me on the path placed before me. Two weeks later I got my answer when I sat in on a Reiki share and heard the words "Hello, my name is Jennifer". Immediately drawn to her energy, I sat in awe when she began to tell her own story. When she spoke of a personal history with cancer and the tools she has used to get her to the place she is today, I felt as if the Universe was actually pointing a finger over her head and was saying "this is your girl". I introduced myself, told her briefly of my diagnosis and she began performing reiki on me that day, giving me the first measure of calm I'd had in weeks. I left wanting more, and was blessed to have received it. We began corresponding through emails and through her counseling and additional reiki sessions I was able to deal with the surgeries and treatment with less pain and stress, while maintaining a sense of personal empowerment. I think that is how most people feel today. It is a hectic life that we live. I woke up one day and realized that I was not on the path I wanted to be on and I was not really happy. My name is Ashley Barnett and I started asking myself some serious questions. I started to read and search for the right path for me, but I just couldn’t pin point it. I had met Jennifer years ago when I helped run a small coffee shop. She was always smiling and I thought no one can be that happy all the time. I dismissed it as she has a problem and I went on with my life. Then in 2009 I started to ask the questions that I mentioned above. But, still couldn’t pin point it. I began to think of Jennifer and how she was always so happy. I asked myself why I couldn’t be more like that. I began to literally have dreams about her. I came to the conclusion that she must have a secret and I wanted to know what that secret was. Then a friend of mine came to me and said she was going to take a Reiki class and did I want to take it with her. I was familiar with it and had read books about it. To my amazement Jennifer was the one holding the class. I quickly signed up. I took the class and afterwards I felt like I had just made the best decision I had made in a long time and I was the happiest I had been in a long time. I was finally back on my path. I call Jennifer my sunshine, because when you are on the bottom of the lake and begin to swim towards the top, the sunshine does begin to peak through and brightens as you merge from the dark to the top.
